External Accounts
You can create your TouchActive account using two methods:
- Manual email sign-up, where you identify yourself using your email address or username and a password.
- "One-click sign-up" where you use an existing account you have in another Internet service, that you have already created and verified.
This second option streamlines the sign-up and sign-in process using what we call "External Accounts" and is what we discuss in more detail here.
Advantages
"One-click sign-up/sign-in" avoids the usual account confirmation cycle via email, where you are sent a confirmation email and then have to click on a link in it to verify your account. Avoid problems or delays due to email delivery problems, or Spam filters. With a single click in TouchActive (plus maybe some additional clicks in the external service to "Allow" it to be used) you can create and verify your account, and sign-in to it. You are up and running instantly!
Also, you have one less username and password combination to remember, or alternatively it avoids you sharing your "usual password" with another provider.
Concerns
Some users have concerns about signing in to TouchActive using one of their External Accounts, such as Facebook, Twitter, Google etc.Do you get my password?
We only request your email address and your preferred language setting. When you sign-in to TouchActive using an External Account, we DO NOT get your username (unless it is also your email address) and specifically we NEVER get your password. We only get a unique access token that is used and can be revoked. What can you do with my Account?
We only request identification information. The permissions we request from the External Account are ususally shown to you before you Allow the connection if you want to check. Our Promise
TouchActive will not use your External Accounts to post to your wall (Facebook) or Tweet in your name (Twitter) or use them in any other way that you have not explicitly approved or requested.Multiple External Accounts
Independantly of how you first created your TouchActive account (using manual method or "One-click sign-up" you can later add additional external accounts to it.If you associate multiple External Accounts to your TouchActive account then you can sign-in to your TouchActive account using any of them, plus the manual username and password mechanism, at any time or on multiple computers, browsers or mobile device - all of them will sign you in to the same account.
Alternative to using External Accounts
You can use TouchActive without using any External Accounts if you wish. When you sign-up, you must do so using your email account, and set a username and password, and then verify the account using the link provided in your confirmation email.
If you do not promptly receive your confirmation email, be sure to check the "Spam" folder in your email, as the confirmation email may have gone there.
If you change your mind, you can always add an external account at a later date to gain the advantages mentioned above.
Known Issues
There is an issue if your email address is at a domain (e.g. mycompany.com) that is provided or used for Google Apps.If you sign-in using "One-click sign-in" on the web and in our mobile application it will not detect they are the same account.
The workaround is:
- Sign-up/Sign-in to your account via the web using One-click sign-in and choosing Google, while being signed in to your Google Apps Domain account in the browser.
- From your name, select "Settings" and add a username and password to your account and save.
- Start the TouchActive app on your phone, and from settings make sure you are first signed-out. Then click to sign-in, and sign-in using the username and password you previously entered on the web.
In your mobile phone, you are now signed-in to the same account as the web and you can syncronize your data between both.
